Hypnotherapy and Psoriasisposted on 24 January 2010 | posted in TrichologyHypnotherapy is now widely used in the treatment of auto-immune disorders such as eczema and psoriasis. Auto-immune disorders often have their roots in chronic stress and hypnotherapy has been demonstrated as an effective way in alleviating stress in patients suffering from trichological and dermatological conditions. The National Psoriasis Foundation states that hypnotherapy can be useful in the treatment of psoriasis as it is offers patients an effective way to learn relaxation techniques and reduce stress which is known to trigger psoriasis. A study conducted by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., at the University of Massachusetts, which was published in Psychosomatic Medicine, examined the use of meditation-based relaxation tapes in psoriasis patients undergoing ultraviolet light (UV) treatments. Patients who listened to the tapes during the treatments cleared their skin more quickly than patients who had the light treatment alone. For those patients suffering from severe trichological and/or dermatological issues, a course of 3-6 hypnotherapy sessions focusing on stress reduction and deep relaxation will be of great benefit without any of the side effects that conventional drug therapy often poses.
